!!! ALERT !!! SCAMMER !!! AVOID !!!



What was worse than this unsanitary listing full of deceitful and misleading information, was the dismissive and manipulative behaviour of the host himself! 

The gas tank for cooking and hot water ran out on the third day of our stay while we were cooking dinner, after only having used the stove twice to toast bread in short intervals for breakfast. This immediately explained the extremely short showers we had had to settle for so far, indicating that the host did not prepare the apartment for our arrival. When we brought this to his attention as we were in the middle of cooking dinner, he lied about gas being available after 21:20, and decided to ignore us until 5:30 in the morning the day after. This resulted in a waste of food, time and money. We went ahead and asked him for a reimbursement for the lack of services so far which he rejected. After he fixed the gas the following day, things completely unraveled. We discovered that there was mold growth on several kitchen utensils such as knives and cutting board as the kitchen sink was leaking onto appliances directly beneath it. There was a stench of mold when opening the cupboards, I literally gagged and had to hold my breath when opening them. We found mold in the bedroom too and the towels indeed smelled the same way. There were stains on the throw pillows, walls and couch. Several listed amenities were missing including a toaster, blender, espresso machine, iron, exercise equipment, drying rack for clothes, window blinders etc. The apartment is also listed with a city skyline view, which is another lie. If you go and stand on the balcony you can catch a glimpse of the 25 de abril bridge, but the immediate view is of a building right in front of the apartment. The location advertisement was misleading too. At best it was 10 minutes to Belem tower if you would either rent a car or pay for a taxi, but walking or public transportation was between 30–50 minutes. With a prior warning that I would report him to Airbnb for his unresponsiveness and unwillingness to reimburse us regarding the gas issue, I went ahead and filed a complaint with Airbnb, requesting a partial to full refund for the trouble and stress he had caused us when adding everything together. Everyday something new appeared. I submitted extensive evidence to Airbnb about the unsanitary conditions and deceitful conduct of the host. I even documented several cockroaches running around in the kitchen on separate occasions. 

Upon checking out I followed the host's protocol. I took down the trash, gathered the towels, and left the keys on the table. Roughly 4 hours after check-out he requested €138 from me for property damage that I did not cause. He accused me of damaging the lock of the front door as well as staining the couch. I even documented the damage he accused me of early during my stay, as I suspected he would be difficult to deal with after my complaint and would use dirty tricks to claim property damage as scammers do. Responding with property damage seems to be an aggressive pattern of his. From prior reviews it seems that whenever guests bring complaints to his attention he retaliates with hostility and false accusations.



!!! Please AVOID this guy !!! If for some reason you choose to book your stay with him, please protect yourself and make sure document everything upon your arrival, and I mean everything! I’m not the first guest he has falsely accused of property damage and probably won’t be the last.
